Enjoy Cartagena’s heavenly sunsets and historic downtown before heading off for a jaunt to Islas Rosarios by boat for an unforgettable day of white sand beaches and turquoise waters, where there are many recreational options to choose from.

Travel by land to Santa Marta, gateway to Parque Tayrona, a vast national park where the Sierra Nevada mountain range meets the palm-covered coastline. From here, take an extra few days on your own to trek to the Lost City or take a day trip to nearby pre-Columbian sites.

Day 1: Arrive to Cartagena

Settle in to your your cool, colonial hotel. If arriving earlier in the day we can organize a carriage ride or late afternoon walking tour of the historic downtown. Enjoy the sunset from Cafe del Mar.

Day 4: Off to Parque Tayrona!

Head further up the coast by private vehicle to Santa Marta. This small coastal city lies next to the Sierra Nevada mountain range and Tayrona National Park, along with crescent-shaped beach and popular backpacker haven, Playa Taganga. The town is relaxed and still growing. We’ll stop for lunch here before heading up to Tayrona National Park, a national treasure. The beaches here are pristine and rugged alike, and nestled into a background of jungle fauna.

Day 2: Getting to know the Crown Jewel of the Caribbean

Start your day with a city + walking tour with expert guide. We’ll adventure to La Popa Monastery and Castillo San Felipe, explore the famous churches of El Centro, and unpack the significance of the colonial architecture.

Day 5: Explore Parque Tayrona

Hike through Tayrona National Park to El Pueblito, a pre-Columbian site. You’ll learn about its rich history with a private guide. Opt for horse riding or “cabalgata” if you’d prefer to explore on horse. During this exploration you’ll see the striking variety of flora, fauna, sealife, and culture right along the coastline.

Alt options: We can arrange a private guide to take you on a hike to different beaches and a local historical site, or snorkeling, do a different hike like “9 Stones,” or a coffee tour on a farm in nearby Minca.

Day 3: Island Hopping

Head out to Islas del Rosario by boat for a full day on turquoise waters with your own private captain. Enjoy the famous colors and the coral reefs. Snorkeling available upon request. Lunch on the beach included. Arrive to your hotel in the early evening.

Day 6: Head back to Cartagena.

Head back to Cartagena. Choose to stay one last night and let us arrange an itinerary for your last day, or transfer to your next destination that same day.

*Note: With tourism increasing in Colombia each year, the number of tourists going to Parque Tayrona is expected to also increase each year. The best times to go to Parque Tayrona are not during the peak seasons (June 15 to July 15, December 15 to January 30, Semana Santa (Holy week) from Friday to the following Sunday (10 days), and not during the rainy season (August to October).
