Salsaterapia! In collaboration with Travel Latina Cali, Colombia December 25 - December 30, 2023
We are back! We hope you have been well and in good health. After four years of pandemic, international moves, immigration processes, and creating a family, we are so happy to be able to get back to what we love: connecting folks with Colombia via travel, experiences, new sights and sounds, and cultural exchanges that enrich everyone involved.
We are thrilled to announce our one and only super special travel experience for 2023: Salsaterapia!!!In collaboration with Travel Latina, a Latinx-and-women-led travel brand and publication dedicated to empowering Latinx who travel, we are heading to CALI COLOMBIA during the international salsa festival (Feria de Salsa) this December for 5 night and 4 days of
Salsa classes al estilo caleño with talented salsa professionals
Night time excursions to top-notch salsa spots around town
Selected events from the Feria de Salsa calendar
Cultural excursions to the Galerîa Alameda for a gastronomic exploration with well-known and respected Afro-Colombian chef
History of salsa experience (live music) at the museo de salsa with ethnomusicologist
One night at Mulatto Cabaret, the company with whom our featured dance teachers perform
Supporting local and women-led business from Cali (gifts, exposure, and introductions courtesy of Scarlet Macaw)
Do you love salsa? Do you love to move? Do you love people? Do you love to learn? Do you love hearing new languages via music? Are you curious about Colombia? Have you loved other places in your visits to Colombia but never been to Cali?
Travel Latina is a travel collective and publication that supports women and gender non-binary people of the Latin American and Caribbean diaspora who travel the world. Their mission is to empower Latinxs to travel, combat negative stereotypes & machismo, encourage them to connect with and embrace their roots while pushing for conscious travel. We’ve collaborated before on our trip to Salento!
WHAT: This is a dance, movement, and music centered experience that is best for active folks comfortable connecting with similarly passionate dancers. Some familiarity with salsa or Latin dance suggested but not required! We will all be learning here.
Curious about salsa caleña? Also for you. Love samba but want to try a new style? Yes, the footwork is bananas (and plátanos) here too.
Two hours of salsa per day. We’re hoping to get some salsa choque (aka salsa urbana) in there, too.
WHY: Many reasons:
To engage with salsa culture and local customs and learn about Cali on the ground.
DANCE! We all know dance = joy, pleasure, life, gratitude, presence.
Experience a love of salsa with a culture for whom salsa is life blood, the air around them, a given heartbeat.
Get in where you fit in! At the Feria de Salsa as a participant and music appreciator, at various salsa spots as a dancer and dance appreciator.
Ale and Sahara and Brayan, from Travel Latina and Scarlet Macaw respectively, all have Colombian roots. This trip is our first to Cali, and is imbued with personal touches because half our family is from Cali. Sharing this experience is personalized in a way other trips are not.
